The Birth Announcement

It only took four months but we finally sent out birth announcements last month. We incorporated all but one of the newborn photos that our friend Sophie (of Sophia Field Photography) took when the twins were one month old. We only ordered one photo of Julia from that session and many of James (between crying and sleeping, Julia wasn't exactly the best model). I didn't want Julia to see the announcement one day, count pictures, and realize she'd been shorted so we found some pictures of Julia that I had taken. Mark Photoshopped in a black background to make it all match. You can see that Julia no longer has that newborn quality about her in her St. Patrick's Day dress - she now has cute chubby cheeks.

I'd like to take credit for designing the announcement but I just didn't have time (something about taking care of two babies). Instead I submitted our photos and text to Purple Stork and they did the rest.

How Do You Like Them Newborn Photos?

Do you remember our beautiful maternity photos taken by our friend and professional photographer, Sophie (Sophia Field Photography)? Well, we returned to see her for newborn photos (babies' first trip to San Francisco!) in January. (See my Yelp review!) How lucky are we to have a friend who specializes in maternity and newborn photos? At one hour each way, the trip from San Jose to San Francisco is still the twins' longest car ride by far. Thankfully they slept both ways.

She suggested we visit her within three weeks after the twins were born because, after that, babies start to lose their newborn-ness. Well, we made it there a month and a day after they were born, hoping their prematurity would (for once) give them an advantage.

She said not to worry - that she knew we'd have to feed them and there would be crying. She was used to it and patient. Very patient. James was pretty game for photos (still is), but Julia kept crying. And then when we took a family photo of the four of us she slept through it!

Watch as James looks like a different baby in nearly every picture.

I think this is the best photo of all.

Mark and James

We bought solid color onesies for the occasion. The smallest size I could find was 0-3 months and you can see they're swimming in them.

My dad's favorite photo. He calls this "Popeye."

Julia looks like some sort of an evil tree elf!

Maternity Photos

Our friend Sophie happens to be a professional photographer (Sophia Field Photography) who specializes in maternity photography (a.k.a. a great person to know when you're pregnant.)

Mark and I went to her studio back in September. (I'm so glad we didn't wait a few weeks longer for our session since, unbeknownst to us, bed rest was lurking just around the corner!) She did our hair (yes, Mark's, too), and then photographed us for several really fun hours in different poses and garb. She was even patient with my limited arsenal of facial poses (basically, I can smile or I can smile).

You may remember Sophie as the possessor of the sink I clogged with vomit back in August in the case of "Kathy, Puke Detective: Was it Morning Sickness or Food Poisoning?" (I think we all know by now it was food poisoning.) We had eaten at Little Star an hour before the fateful vomitous clogging, yet I didn't believe it was responsible for the food poisoning since food poisoning usually can be blamed on food consumed at least 6 hours before. The puke-tastic episode in August created what smelled, tasted, and looked like a deep dish pizza smoothie in Sophie's sink. That might slow some people down from eating at Little Star again a month later. But not me. We returned with Sophie for dinner there after the portrait session.

Anyway here are some of the photos from the maternity photo session. Sophie also took newborn portraits at the beginning of January which I plan to post soon.

We may have been Sophie's palest clients ever. Well, me anyway.

Scandalous!
