Hiding the Beachball

Don't get me wrong, I'm totally showing, but I think it's weird when people make a big deal over the fact that I'm showing when I'm wearing something that disguises that fact pretty well. Case in point: this dress I wore last week. (Note: I'm not sucking it in here. That would have been a lot of babies to suck in.)

Several of my co-workers were excited to tell me I was showing when I was wearing this. I wouldn't mind if they said it while I was wearing any of most of my outfits that give me a baby belly, but I thought of all my baby hiding outfits this one was one of the ones that worked the best. What say you? Feel free to be brutally honest. (Or less brute, more honest. I do have feelings you know.)

  1. yes-I agree that you don't appear to be showing. however, you do look a little curvier, (ie Kelsi) than you usual runner svelte self. That said, if you are interested in hiding for a few months, you can't go without a nice oversized fleece :)

  2. But this photo is from two and a half weeks ago! As I recall, you weren't showing at all at that point, regardless of the outfit. If you wore that dress today, I wouldn't be surprised by the coworker comments.

  3. I put this dress on a couple days after I wore it to work to photograph it for this site. Yes, this was a couple weeks ago (how did you know that?) because I'm behind at updating and I originally wrote this post a week ago, but this is how I looked when they said I was showing.

And yes, I'm totally showing now in *anything* I wear.

  5. I don't know how thin you were before the babies, but I wouldn't think you were showing if I saw you looking like this. I didn't have strangers assume I was pregnant until I was about 6 months along - granted I wasn't as svelt as you when I got pregnant. But your friends who know you might see a difference at this point.

It was actually Sherlock Lila who noticed that if you save the photo to your computer, you can have Windows display the Date Taken info for photos. That info and even the model of the camera used is stored in the image file.

I don't know if I can trust any info on this blog anymore. Are you really pregnant at all? (If only Windows could display that info!)

  8. there's no way i would assume this is a picture of a pregnant woman. I should wish to be this svelte, pregnant or not.

  9. I wouldn't have guessed your were pregnant, let alone with twins! But do you want to hide it? I loved showing my belly when I could! :)

  10. I was in that awkward stage where I was just starting to show when that picture was taken. One week after that I grew... a lot. Now I'm just happy if clothes fit - I don't care if I'm showing (which I am). I'll be happy when I look more pregnant so I can show my belly more.

    You are so pretty!

There's actually another baby blog I love to read: dearbaby.tumblr.com. it's so lovely, written by a girl named melissa also from SF.

Lastly, a question: can you continue to dye your hair? it would be good to know for the future :)

  12. Aw, you're so sweet, Shanayna. :)

That other blog looks cool and her delivery date is apparently two days after mine. I like that she posted her first bump picture. I plan on doing that soon. I also like her ultrasound photos that say "More chips and salsa please!"

That's interesting you should ask about dying hair since that came up twice at work today. I've heard different things about it. Most people you know will tell you it's okay. My nurse practioner said it was okay. And then I asked my doctor to double check. She said she didn't recommend it. That's all I needed to hear to not dye my hair. If there's any chance of it hurting the babies it's a no go.

Now I'm trying to figure out what to do about my roots and grays in the meantime. I plan to make a trip to a beauty supply store and Aveda for suggestions.

  13. Omigod you look darling. And you in this pic look less pregnant than I do right now, though I bear no one in my belly.

  14. Aw, thanks! Kate, you should see me now. That picture was taken 3 weeks ago. I am now gargantuan.

    Pictures to come...
